On Wednesday in South Sudan, in Unity State, there was a plane crash in which at least 20 people died. This information was conveyed by regional authorities, as reported by Reuters. The plane carried 21 passengers, mainly oil company personnel, and crew members.

Among the fatalities were two Chinese nationals and one Indian national. This information was confirmed by Unity State's Minister of Information and Communication, Gatwech Bipal. The causes of the accident are not yet known.

According to the UN radio station Radio Miraya, the crash occurred in the central part of the country. The plane was servicing one of the oil fields. South Sudan, which is experiencing civil war, has suffered several similar aviation tragedies in recent years.

In 2018, a small plane crash killed at least 19 people while flying from the country’s capital, Juba, to the town of Yirol. In 2015, a Russian cargo plane crashed after taking off from the airport in Juba, resulting in dozens of deaths.

In March last year, a transport plane flying from Juba crashed at the airport in Malakal. There were seven people on board, but fortunately, no one was injured.

In October, a report emerged of a shocking incident in Sudan's North Darfur province, where rebels likely shot down an Il-76 plane by mistake, possibly with Russians on board.
