Pizza ball recipe transforms classic favorite into a party hit

Knowing how to prepare pizza dough can be beneficial in many ways. I discovered this when I began serving my family pizza balls as an alternative to the traditional Italian pie. Dinner? A party snack? Use them however you like!

Everyone loves pizza, without a doubt. Fluffy dough, flavorful toppings, and plenty of cheese—that's the recipe for a successful lunch, dinner, or night out. However, sometimes it's worth trying this classic combination in another interesting way. Pizza balls, which I've been making for some time now, perfectly demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.

The main challenge in preparing such a snack is, of course, making good pizza dough. Below, I've included the recipe I use, and it never disappoints me. The rest of the ingredients are open to improvisation. For me, there's one rule, which I’ve already mentioned: It must have... lots of cheese. Well, you can't deceive the heart and stomach.

Pizza balls – A snack for dinner or a party

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz of flour (you can use type 450, but it’s best to find an Italian kind marked with the numbers 00),
  • 1 teaspoon salt,
  • ½ teaspoon sugar,
  • ¼ oz instant yeast,
  • 1 cup warm water,
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil.

Toppings:

  • 9 oz mozzarella,
  • 4 oz yellow cheese,
  • 3.5 oz salami,
  • 4 tablespoons butter,
  • 1 clove garlic,
  • salt,
  • Provençal herbs,
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste,
  • parsley.

Instructions:

  1. Start by mixing the yeast with warm water and sugar. Combine this mixture with the flour, salt, and olive oil.
  2. Knead the dough, form it into a ball, and cover it with a cloth. Leave it for an hour in a warm place to rise.
  3. During this time, grate the cheeses, chop the salami, and press the garlic clove. Mix everything in one bowl, add the butter, and season with salt and herbs. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and heat it on low.
  4. Divide the risen pizza dough into smaller pieces and flatten each into a small cake. Spread them with tomato paste and add the prepared filling.
  5. Seal them into balls and place them in an olive oil-greased springform pan. Bake for about 25 minutes at 350°F. Serve with chopped parsley.
