The goal was attributed to Lawson Crouse, although he had minimal involvement. He was just the most recent Arizona Coyotes player to handle the puck.

Despite the challenging score of 2:3, the Pittsburgh Penguins held onto their hope of catching up. They had a numerical advantage on the ice, and to boost their attack, they decided to pull the goalie. Time revealed that instead of assisting, this decision resulted in catastrophe.

Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin took control of the puck. Letang passed towards the goal, but Malkin lost control of the puck, and soon enough, it ended up in the net. The hockey disaster was official.

"It was wild," hockey player Alexander Kerfoot remarked on the odd goal, footage of which spread across social media. The Pittsburgh Penguins players certainly had a night of embarrassment, having practically handed the opponents an uncontested goal.

The humiliating goal contributed to the Coyotes defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time since 2017.
