Perfect glazed roast recipe for Grandfather’s Day dinner

What should you make for a family dinner on Grandfather’s Day? I no longer hesitate or try to come up with something new. I’ve been relying on glazed roast for several years, and the family absolutely loves it. I also appreciate how simple it is to prepare.

Pork roast is a dish that never fails to impress guests. It can be beautifully presented and pairs well with a variety of sides and sauces. This way, each plate can have a unique presentation. Everyone is satisfied, but it’s clear that the most important people on this day are the grandparents.

The best meat for roast

While most types of meat are suitable for roasting, pork is particularly great for glazing. I recommend choosing high-quality pork shoulder or ham. Spices play a crucial role, and garlic, thyme, and marjoram best complement pork by enhancing its natural flavor. I rub the meat with spices and marinate it the day before to maximize its aroma.

Marinade for crispiness

In the marinade I prepare for pork, I include brown sugar. This results in a delicious, crispy crust after baking. To keep the meat juicy inside, I drizzle some of the baking sauce over it.

The recommended baking temperature is 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Towards the end, raising the temperature slightly is beneficial to ensure the crust browns nicely. Vegetables can also be roasted alongside the meat, significantly shortening the dinner preparation time.

Glazed roast

Ingredients:

  • 4.4 lbs of pork ham or shoulder
  • 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of tomato paste
  • 6 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of dried marjoram
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 5 allspice berries
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method of preparation:

  1. Mix the spices, pressed garlic, and sugar. Add balsamic vinegar and tomato paste. Finally, stir in olive oil or vegetable oil.
  2. Thoroughly rub the washed and dried ham with the prepared marinade. Wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 24 hours to let the meat absorb the flavors.
  3. Grease the baking dish and place the allspice berries and bay leaves at the bottom. Place the meat on top and add a cup of water.
  4. Place in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 2 hours. Occasionally baste the ham with the sauce from the dish during baking.
  5. For the last 15 minutes, bake the meat uncovered to allow the glaze to caramelize.
