Partygoers beware: Stealthy needle attacks surge in nightclubs

Club-goers are oftentimes warned about the infamous date rape pill. However, a new and sinister method of drugging has emerged - needle spiking. Increasingly, people are getting drugged unknowingly through this method, which is easy to administer on a crowded dance floor and nearly impossible to detect.

Previously, psychoactive substances disguised as mundane tablets, pills, or cocktails were used commonly for exploitation or assault. When dissolved in liquids such as water, juice, or alcohol, these drugs are indiscernible. Their effects, which include drowsiness and prolonged amnesia lasting several hours, kick in mere minutes after ingestion.

Menacingly, a new method threatening the safety of those on the dance floor has surfaced. According to High Heels, needle spiking has become a worrying trend in the West.

One popular form of the so-called date rape pill was once registered in Poland as a prescription drug for insomnia. Victims drugged with it lose behavioural control and become highly suggestible. If the substance is combined with alcohol, it can cause several hours of amnesia. The drug acts fast, with its maximum concentration in blood being reached in approximately 60 minutes.

Drugs added to alcoholic beverages begin to take effect within 15-30 minutes. The effects of GHB can last from 6 to 8 hours.

E-cigarettes, sprays, or injections are becoming increasingly popular as delivery systems for intoxicating substances. In cities like London and Amsterdam, such occurrences are increasing. Needle spiking involves injecting a substance during a party, often on a crowded dance floor where victims may not notice the needle prick, in areas like the stomach or ankle.

Primarily, staying vigilant at parties is essential - never leave your drinks or food unattended, especially in a club setting. If you suspect you've been drugged, alert your friends or relatives immediately - these substances act rapidly, and time is of the essence.
