Pantone unveils Mocha Mousse as 2025 color of the year
Pantone has announced the color of the year for 2025: Mocha Mousse. The statement on social media described it as "a rich, warming brown inspired by chocolate and coffee."
As 2025 approaches quickly, Pantone has officially selected its latest color of the year. While the past year was marked by the color Peach Fuzz, a delicate pink-orange hue, next year's Pantone color will be Mocha Mousse, a warm and gentle brown.
Sophisticated and luxurious, yet an unpretentious classic, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expands the perception of brown from a humble, grounded shade to an embrace of aspiration and luxury. Infused with subtle elegance and earthy sophistication, it offers a touch of understated, subtle glamour, says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a statement on the website.
As highlighted in the statement, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse "can stand alone or serve as a versatile foundation, enhancing a wide range of palettes and applications—from minimalist to richly detailed designs—across all color-focused industries."
The overriding theme as we went into looking for this year's color was this whole idea of harmony, said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, in an interview with USA Today.
Colors of the year chosen since 1999
Pantone has been announcing colors of the year since 1999. To determine which shade will be chosen, an international team studies trends related to fashion, design, travel, technology, the art world, and the entertainment industry.
This year, Pantone is collaborating with various international partners to bring Mocha Mousse to life. Companies such as Motorola, Post-it, and Joybird are releasing products designed using this color. Pantone will also be hosting color-related events in cities like New York, Shanghai, and Mumbai.
Peach Fuzz, the color of the year for 2024, was meant to bring optimism and inspire positive change. The previous year, the choice was Viva Magenta. The intense pink was intended to symbolize courage and creativity. In 2022, the color of the year was Veri Peri, a lavender-blue shade that aimed to bring calm after the challenging pandemic times.
