High cholesterol impairs the circulatory system, leading to serious diseases and even death. Why is it called the "silent killer"? It acts unnoticed. Its symptoms are often barely noticeable or confused with other ailments. One such symptom is frequently dismissed as overwork, lack of sleep, or even thyroid diseases.

Other symptoms of high cholesterol can also be quite surprising. Hallmark signs are characteristic yellowish thickenings on the eyelids, elbows, or under the breast, and nodules on wrist tendons and Achilles. You may also notice tightly stretched and shiny skin on the feet. When cholesterol levels exceed the norm, blood flow in the limbs is greatly disturbed, leading to chronic leg pain.
Causes of high cholesterol
High cholesterol is something that must not be underestimated. Untreated, it can lead to death from cardiovascular diseases. Notably, it's one of the most common causes of death in Poland. Knowing how it manifests allows us to react in time. Especially at risk are people over the age of 30, smokers, and those with overweight. If you're at risk, changing habits is crucial. In the fight against high cholesterol, drinking alcohol, a fatty diet, and little physical activity are detrimental.
