The need for drones in Ukraine remains consistently high. Ukrainian soldiers rely on them for reconnaissance, artillery fire guidance, and executing attacks against the enemy. This has led domestic manufacturers to ramp up production to fulfill the demand, and the authorities to implement the "Army of Drones" program. Within this initiative, over 1500 kamikaze drones Shrike FPV have recently been acquired and allocated to those stationed on the eastern front.

The large-scale procurement and delivery of drones to the Ukrainian Armed Forces was announced by Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov. Using the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), the politician emphasized the cost-effectiveness of the drones: "A single drone costs just a few hundred dollars, but it can unexpectedly surprise the enemy. More UAVs from the Army of Drones program are on their way." Fedorov confirmed to the Ukrainian service Miliatrnety that "each drone will assist our fighters in disabling an even larger portion of the enemy's equipment."

Ukraine's drone army continues to strengthen

FPV kamikaze drones offer a simple, inexpensive way to bolster the offensive capabilities of Ukrainian units near the frontline. These drones are significantly cheaper than purpose-built military UAVs; they are also easy to operate and have the potential to inflict substantial damage to the enemy. With minor modifications, such as adding explosive charges, they can be transformed into lethal weapons.

It's worth noting that FPV (First Person View) technology enables the drone operator to see live images as if they were on board the drone themselves. This allows for precise control of the device and the execution of accurate attacks. The onboard camera ensures that the drone reaches its designated target. However, the kamikaze drones are often destroyed upon impact, so they are typically accompanied by observation drones, which are used to assess the aftermath of an attack.

The Shrike FPV kamikaze drones are among the newest additions to Ukraine's army of drones. This innovation is developed and manufactured by a Ukrainian start-up focused on providing defense technologies for the Defense Forces. Although exact specifications are not disclosed, it's presumed that the drones carry explosive charges weighing a few to several dozen pounds and have a range of at least a few miles. As previously reported, the "Army of Drones" project fulfills the needs directly reported by fighters. They deliver real-time feedback on required equipment and note what is most effective on the frontline.
