Over 100 Sony TVs to lose Netflix support by February. Check if your model is on the list

Sony issued a short statement concerning the Netflix platform. With time, the application is continuously evolving, and as a result, TVs are required to consistently update to the latest versions. Increasing hardware demands are starting to exceed some older models' capabilities, including numerous Sony models. However, there is a workaround that will allow continued use of the platform without having to purchase a new TV.

Sony TVs Losing Netflix Support

Sony is a major player in the home electronics market. Traditionally, its TVs have been best-selling, mainly due to excellent quality and competitive prices. Regrettably, over 100 models will lose Netflix support. These models were produced between 2011 and 2013; despite their age, most are still in good working condition. The increasing hardware demands are the main reason for discontinuing the app's support on these models.

Most older TVs will lose access to the Netflix app in February 2024. They can continue to use it until the end of next month. Afterward, it will be removed from all devices lacking essential updates and technical support. This also applies to Blu-ray players manufactured from 2011 to 2013.

Which TVs will Lose the Application?

Even a TV purchased in 2013 is far from obsolete, while many still own perfectly functioning sets from the 2000s. Although, today's fast-paced technological advancements mean that over ten years, numerous new technologies have emerged that greatly differ from those popular a decade ago. The models that will lose support include most of the Sony HX, EX, and W series. The manufacturer's website provides a complete list of models that will lose Netflix access from March.

It's easy to conclude that buying a new TV is the only solution to regain access to the application. While that would work, it's not the only option. Alternatives for those reluctant to purchase a new TV include smart TV set-top boxes or gaming consoles that support the Netflix application. This option is far more cost-effective, so it's worth considering if access to movies and series is important to you.
