Oscar nominations rocked by LA fires: A look at top contenders
For the 97th time, the most essential film industry awards will be presented in Los Angeles. The Academy has announced the final list of Oscar nominations.
Initially, the broadcast, during which we were to learn about the creators, actresses, and films with a chance of winning an Oscar, was scheduled for January 15. However, due to the devastating fires in Los Angeles, the Academy members' voting deadline and the date the world would learn the voting results were postponed.
Hundreds of people lost their homes and jobs in the California fires. Entire communities were displaced due to mandatory evacuations, which were necessary for residents to save their lives. The tragedy in Los Angeles will certainly be a significant topic during the Oscar gala, which will occur on the night of March 2, Eastern Time. Actress Rachel Sennott ("Idol") and comedian Bowen Yang ("SNL") read the nominations.
