Osbourne family's private member: Aimee's quest for a normal life away from reality TV fame
As Ozzy Osbourne's music career began to dwindle, he and his wife allowed MTV cameras into their home for round-the-clock filming. The only member of the family opposed to this idea was their 16-year-old daughter, Aimee.
"I wanted a chance to grow up normally. [...] The show worked great for the rest of my family, but it just wasn't for me," she expressed during an interview with New York's Q1043 radio station.
A Mother's Heartbroken Over Her Daughter's Departure
The teenager's decision to move out hit Sharon Osbourne hard. Known for her roles as a judge on "The X Factor" and "America's Got Talent," Sharon struggled to come to terms with her daughter's desire for privacy.
"The cameras in our house were driving her mad. She had absolutely no interest in giving up her privacy. She loathed that show. Leaving the house made her happier, but it broke my heart," Sharon confessed on "The Talk."
Fruit Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree
In contrast to her parents and siblings, Aimee has always been more solitary.
"I would spend hours in my room with a disco ball, listening to my favorite artists and fostering my internal world," she recalled during the radio interview.
Her Relationship with Her Sister Is Distant
Aimee admires the music of artists such as Kate Bush, Portishead, PJ Harvey, and Massive Attack. In 2010, she formed her own band, ARO, where she is the lead singer. She rarely spends time with her family and feels the most estranged from her sister Kelly.
"We don't meet up, we don't talk. We're simply too different. She doesn't understand me, and I don't understand her," Aimee confessed.
