Orchids are among the most beautiful potted plants commonly found in American homes. Although their care isn't overly demanding, it can be simplified with the use of homemade nutrients. These natural solutions are not only cheaper than store-bought fertilizers but also more environmentally friendly.

Simple nutrient for orchids

Orchids require regular watering and a suitably sunny location, but they also need good nourishment. For this reason, it's beneficial to know a homemade nutrient that provides everything they need. It's both inexpensive and simple.

To create this nutrient, you'll need a quart of boiled water and a teaspoon of Epsom salt. Once mixed, this solution should be used to water the plants once a week. As a result, the orchids will bloom abundantly. Epsom salt contains magnesium sulfate, which aids in the production of chlorophyll and enhances the plant's immunity.

Red onion, commonly used in the kitchen, can also benefit orchids due to its calcium, magnesium, potassium, and antioxidants. To prepare this nutrient, cover a large onion with hot water in a tightly closed container. Let it stand in a cool, shaded place for three days, then strain the liquid through gauze. Water orchids with this mixture once a week, and you'll notice quick results — the leaves will become lush and fleshy.

Banana peels are also beneficial for orchid care. Rich in phosphorus, potassium, and calcium, these peels can be soaked in water and left in a dark place. After a few days, the resulting liquid serves as an excellent fertilizer, not only for orchids but also for other flowers. Watering orchids weekly with this mixture will strengthen them and ensure a healthy appearance.
