Orban skips Trump inauguration, stays for EU duties
Viktor Orban will not participate in Donald Trump's inauguration, reports the Hungarian portal Telex. The Hungarian Prime Minister was one of the few European politicians invited to the ceremony.
Instead of traveling to Washington, the head of the Hungarian government is scheduled to summarize the six-month presidency of his country in the EU Council on January 20 in Budapest. This term ended with the new year. On January 1, Poland assumed the presidency of the EU.
Billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg will be present at the ceremony. Former U.S. President Barack Obama has also confirmed his attendance at the event.
Politicians at Trump's ceremony
Several far-right politicians in Europe have announced their attendance, including Brit Nigel Farage, Frenchman Eric Zemmour, Dutchman Geert Wilders, and Belgian Tom Van Grieken, who will also be present.
Viktor Orban was among the politicians who were first to visit the president-elect when it became clear that Trump would become the 47th President of the United States.
The Hungarian Prime Minister then visited Mar-a-Lago, Trump's residence in Florida.
