Houseplants, particularly in the winter months, have a significant impact on uplifting your mood. There exist numerous varieties of the Ficus, some of which that grace our windowsills can grow up to an impressive 6.56 feet tall! But how can we properly nurture a Ficus to ensure healthy growth and prevent ailments? The key, besides positioning the plant correctly, is in the nutrients it receives. The most beneficial fertilizer can actually be prepared at home.

It's important to remember that Ficus plants adore light and should not be placed in direct sunlight. The perfect location would be a brightly lit, spacious room, just not too close to the window. These plants are also not fans of the cold. The temperature should remain above 59 degrees Fahrenheit. In the summer, extra care should be taken to ensure that the area where the Ficus is located doesn't exceed 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

How does one care for a Ficus? This product works wonders

Surprisingly, the best way to nurture this popular houseplant is by creating a homemade nourishing substance composed primarily of... gelatin. When mixed with water, it is a valuable fertilizer that encourages the Ficus to thrive. Preparing this homemade nutrient is incredibly straightforward.

Simply dissolve a teaspoon of gelatin in a glass of warm water, ensuring that the two ingredients are mixed thoroughly. Once the gelatin has dissolved, add three additional glasses of cold water. Stir the mixture and then water the Ficus.

Why is gelatin the secret ingredient?

Gelatin is packed with several components essential for the Ficus. Particularly noteworthy is its high nitrogen content, which contributes positively to the root system. Healthy, robust roots naturally enhance the plant's overall strength.

However, moderation is key. It isn't advisable to use the gelatin nutrient more often than once every three weeks.
