As we all know, live television has its own set of rules. The occurrence of errors is an inherent part of it. Some gaffes go viral, while others promptly disappear into obscurity. However, viewers won't forget this "incident" on British television anytime soon.

The awkward mistake of a prominent presenter left viewers in disbelief

One of the recent broadcasts of BBC News caused a significant wave across the media. This was all due to Maryam Moshiri who, unaware that she was on the air, showed her middle finger to the camera. Immediately after the crude gesture, the presenter realized the program was live and quickly resumed hosting.

Viewers did not shield their indignation, and social media instantly flooded with derogatory remarks. Netizens accused the presenter of unprofessional conduct and disdain towards viewers. There were also suggestions that the BBC should end its association with Moshiri.

Maryam Moshiri makes an apology for her crude gesture

Following the media furor generated by Maryam Moshiri's gesture, the presenter opted to address the issue. On X, previously known as Twitter, she attempted to defend herself and explain the vulgar "joke".

"Hello, everyone, I was joking around with the team just before going on air yesterday. I simulated the producer's countdown from 10 to 0 using my fingers. When I reached 1, I jokingly showed my middle finger. I wasn't aware that it was captured on camera",” she began.

"It was a private joke with the team, and I'm profoundly sorry it was broadcast! I had no intention for this to happen, and I apologize if I offended or upset anyone. I truly did not aim the middle finger at any viewer or even any person. It was a senseless joke," she concluded.

A major gaffe?
