Norwegian plane skids off runway in Molde, passengers safe
A dangerous incident occurred at the airport in Molde. A Norwegian Boeing B737-800 skidded off the runway during landing and stopped just a few yards from the seashore. Fortunately, all passengers emerged unscathed.
Dramatic moments unfolded in the evening on December 19 at the airport in Molde, Norway. The Boeing B737-800, with registration number LN-NIP, operated by Norwegian Airlines, was on domestic flight DY430 from Oslo to Molde.
There were 165 passengers on board. During landing, the aircraft failed to brake in time, skidded off the runway, and stopped dangerously close to the shoreline.
A fortunate end to the landing
Despite the seriousness of the situation, none of the passengers sustained serious injuries. Thanks to an efficiently conducted evacuation, everyone quickly left the aircraft. Short clips from the scene showing the evacuation and rescue services' activities are circulating online.
The cause of the incident was most likely challenging weather conditions. Strong winds and a slippery runway surface significantly hindered a safe landing. As a result, the airport in Molde was temporarily closed, and all flights were suspended.
