Two F-35 fighter jets from the Norwegian Air Force were scrambled on Tuesday. This action was a response to the movement of two Russian Tu-95 bombers, which flew close to NATO airspace in the Arctic region, NATO's air force command reported on Wednesday.
Norwegian F-35 pilots swiftly located and identified the Russian aircraft, maintaining a safe distance to closely monitor their movements.
NATO emphasized that the advanced capabilities of the F-35 allowed for the collection of crucial information and ensured that the Russian aircraft did not violate the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance.
"Our Quick Reaction Alert mission in the Arctic is crucial for our national defense and NATO's collective security. The ability to respond swiftly ensures the safety of our airspace and underscores the strength of our allied forces in maintaining peace and stability," said Major General Oeivind Gunnerud, commander of the Norwegian Air Force.
