North Korean troops suffer heavy losses in Russian conflicts
More than 100 North Korean soldiers were killed, and a thousand were wounded in clashes with Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia, according to the South Korean National Intelligence Service.
The South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) revealed that over 100 North Korean soldiers were killed in the Kursk region of Russia, and a thousand were wounded. These soldiers, according to the NIS, are being used as assault forces on the frontline.
NIS reported that some of the 11,000 North Korean soldiers deployed in the Kursk region began participating in battles in December. The high number of casualties is due to unfamiliarity with the terrain and an inability to respond to drone attacks.
The Yonhap agency reported that the first casualties, including a high-ranking officer, were killed as a result of Ukrainian missile and drone attacks. The Security Service of Ukraine confirmed significant losses among North Korean troops.
The Ukrainian military intelligence warns that the participation of North Korean soldiers in the war on Russia’s side poses a threat to Ukraine, South Korea, and Japan. Soldiers who survive may return with combat experience and train others in the DPRK army.
