John Kirby, spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council, announced on Tuesday that confirming the presence of North Korean soldiers in Ukraine could indicate "a new level of desperation for Russia." Kirby referred to media reports suggesting the possible involvement of North Korean troops in fighting Ukrainian forces.
On Monday, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, accused North Korea of "actually engaging in the war." Media reports have also mentioned the formation of a "special Buryat battalion" in the Russian army, allegedly composed of North Korean citizens. According to the Ukrainian Pravda portal, this unit may be deployed to fight in the Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops have been active since August 6.
The United States on the North Korea and Russia alliance
John Kirby emphasized that the United States is still investigating these reports. If they are true, it could lead to further deterioration of international relations and strengthen the military alliance between North Korea and Russia.
The Polish Press Agency reminds us that although similar information has surfaced before, its confirmation remains a subject of interest for international intelligence services. This could completely change the perception of Russia's current alliances.
