The incident, as reported by the Daily Mail, occurred at the end of September in Kyongwon County in North Hamgyong Province.
The company commander's wife died on the spot, while her lover, the non-commissioned officer, narrowly escaped with his life. Upon returning home from several days of business duty, the husband found them in a compromising situation, became furious, and attacked.
Following the incident, the company commander was stripped of his rank and detained by the brigade's security department. He is currently awaiting punishment. The non-commissioned officer was dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
The battalion's political department ordered the soldiers to maintain silence, but news of the wife's murder and the attack on her lover spread quickly among Kyongwon residents. The community blamed the company commander for inviting the non-commissioned officer to his home to receive extra food rations.
The non-commissioned officer was responsible for supplying the company with food and basic products like soap. Officers and their families tried to maintain close relations with him because he could "tinker" with the books to give them an extra ounce of rice, a source from the Daily Mail said.
After the incident, the 27th brigade prohibited soldiers from visiting officers' homes and warned that such behaviors would be strictly punished.
