Nissan is another brand facing a crisis due to global changes in the automotive market. The Japanese company has just announced significant cuts in the U.S. These decisions will affect their factories in Smyrna, Tennessee; Canton, Mississippi; and Decherd, Tennessee.

The manufacturer announced that starting in April, it will eliminate one shift at the Smyrna plant, which produces the Rogue SUV. The same change will occur in Canton starting in September, where the Altima sedan is produced.

Voluntary layoffs will accompany the decisions. The brand intends to encourage employees to leave with substantial severance packages. However, it has not disclosed the specific amounts. The Japanese newspaper "Nikkei" claims that up to 1,500 people could be affected by these layoffs.

This decision is part of a larger plan announced in November 2024, in which Nissan revealed the possibility of laying off up to 9,000 people in China and North America.

The manufacturer has high hopes for improving its situation with a potential merger with Honda, which could create the world's third-largest automotive conglomerate.
