On Tuesday, May 7, Shuntaro Furukawa made an exciting announcement on social media, confirming the development of a successor to the Nintendo Switch, delighting fans worldwide.

Since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch console has been a hit among fans, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the Japanese brand. Remarkably, seven years after its release, the console has sold over 141 million units, a testament to its immense popularity.

Yet, the absence of a new console for seven years is palpable, especially as competitors unveil more advanced consoles and games incompatible with the Nintendo Switch. This market shift prompted Shuntaro Furukawa to consider launching an innovative offering.

"This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation," - the Nintendo president stated on social media.
