Night skies alight. Russia targets Ukraine's energy in fresh assault
Russia launched an overnight aerial attack on the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and causing power outages in Sumy and surrounding areas. This move is part of Putin's harsh adherence to the Gerasimov doctrine.
The attack focused on Ukraine's energy facilities, marking another restless night for the region.
"The enemy targeted the energy facilities of the Sumy region," reported the regional administration, noting that repair teams were swiftly addressing the damages.
In addition to the airstrikes, Russian forces utilized Iranian-made Shahed drones, launching thirteen of these from the Kursk region in western Russia.
"Mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defence Forces destroyed 12 enemy attack UAVs in Sumy Oblast during combat operations," shared General Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Forces, on Telegram.
The harsh reality of war doctrine
Since the onset of the invasion, Russia has executed comprehensive missile strikes on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, primarily targeting the nation's transmission networks and power plants.
Russia's strategy aims to cripple Ukraine's energy capability, focusing attacks on vital power plants as well as on the interconnected networks and corridors vital for energy distribution.
