Night attack: Drones target key Russian airbase near Moscow
Russian airbase Chkalovsky near Moscow was attacked overnight from Sunday to Monday using drones. Anti-aircraft defense operations were heard around the airport. The extent of the damage is yet unknown.
Russian Telegram channels report that the Chkalovsky airport near Moscow was attacked overnight. Videos surfaced online showing Shchelkovo, a town next to the airport, where intensive activity of Russian anti-aircraft defense was recorded.
The base is approximately 19 miles northeast of Moscow. According to one of the channels, unidentified drones "were destroyed on the airbase premises."
The base had previously been targeted by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. A successful strike took place, among others, in September 2023.
Ukrainian attacks on Russian airbases
In recent days, Ukrainians have intensified attacks on Russian airbases. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that a Russian military airport in Lipetsk was attacked. Russian aircraft such as Su-34, Su-35, and MiG-31 are stationed at this base.
The attack destroyed warehouses with guided aerial bombs and several other objects on the airport premises. The attack's results were later confirmed by satellite images showing the damage.
