CNN reports that Davis's body was found in his Southwestern Ranches residence in southern Florida. Responding to a call from the ex-footballer's housekeeper, police discovered the 35-year-old deceased.

The specific causes of Davis's death remain unclear, with investigations being carried out by the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office. According to CNN, which cited police sources, initial findings suggest that his death did not involve any third party.

The news of the 35-year-old former athlete's passing has resonated widely across the United States, prompting condolences from NFL league authorities and others.

"The NFL is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Vontae Davis. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones," says a brief statement.

Born on May 27, 1988, Davis launched his football career on academic teams before joining the Miami Dolphins in 2009. After three seasons, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts and, in 2018, signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.

In a surprising turn of events during the break of his second game with the team, Davis publicly announced his retirement, citing a decline in his physical condition as the reason. This decision shocked his teammates and NFL authorities alike.

Davis played as a cornerback in the NFL, participating in 121 games throughout his career. He achieved 27 interceptions and 97 pass deflections.
