New Russian offensive? Zelensky: Russians are preparing for May or early summer

KYIV, UKRAINE - FEBRUARY 25: President Volodymr Zelensky speaks during a press conference at the Ukraine Year 2024 forum on February 25, 2024 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Yesterday marked two years since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has left tens of thousands dead and many more wounded, although neither country releases official casualty figures. However, Zelensky stated that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in Russia's war so far. The war has also sparked economic insecurity around the world, further isolated Russia from the West, and, while initially galvanizing NATO countries, has exposed tensions between Western allies over the scale and duration of military support to Ukraine. Two years on, the war shows no sign of ending, even while the frontlines have changed very little in recent months (Photo by Paula Bronstein./Getty Images)

"We started this way together two years ago. Not sure what challenges would lay ahead, but now we can clearly say that our leadership is sufficient to restore security", said Zelensky during a press conference one day after the second anniversary of Russia's attack on Ukraine.

2 years of Russian agression

"We will prepare for their (Russians) assault. Their assault that began on Oct. 8 has not brought any results, I believe. We, for our part, will prepare our plan and follow it," Zelenskiy said.

The President of Ukraine said to Russians, "Will prepare, and we will prepare for their fight (...). "If we all fall apart — externally with our partners and, God forbid, internally — then this will be the weakest moment. So far, this has not happened," Zelensky point out.

The Ukrainian president also spoke about the losses suffered by the Ukrainian army since the beginning of the Russian invasion. According to him, 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died at the hands of the Russians. According to Reuters, "the Russian foreign ministry rejected the Ukraine figure as untrue".

US elections in the context of the war in Ukraine

Zelenski also mentioned the civilian victims of this conflict in the occupied territories. He also noted the importance of Western financial assistance in the conflict, and said that future presidential elections in the United States could be "a turning point".

According to Kyiv Post, 85 percent of Ukrainians are sure that Kyiv’s forces will win the war with Russia. Experts claim that the continuing consolidation of society is one of the most important factors influencing the political and social situation.
