The incident occurred early morning on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Kevin, a 22-year-old witness, recounted seeing the truck strike people on the left side of the sidewalk, with one body flying in his direction, during an interview with CNN.

Another individual, who had been celebrating New Year’s at a club on Bourbon Street, described the chaotic scene. They mentioned hearing screams as people rushed to the back of the venue, which was quickly locked down. Upon being allowed to leave, they observed multiple bodies and numerous individuals receiving first aid, as instructed by the police to exit the area swiftly.

CBS News, citing witnesses, reported that the police shot in the direction of the man when he got out of the truck with a weapon in his hand.

Emergency services and police are actively responding at the scene, with approximately 50 ambulances and patrol cars present. According to a local television reporter who described witnessing people overcome with fear and tears, the entire area has been evacuated.
