"American Psycho" first premiered in theaters in 2000. Christian Bale delivered a stellar performance as the disaffected Patrick Bateman, a character who begins a spree of murders. The film is iconic—even if you haven't seen it, you're likely familiar with its scenes and frames. Patrick Bateman is a complete red flag when it comes to favorite film characters, yet he has become a pop culture phenomenon and a timeless inspiration for Halloween costumes.

Is a remake of "American Psycho" necessary just over 20 years later? The answer might be surprising: the film directed by Luca Guadagnino ("Call Me by Your Name," "Suspiria," "Bones and All," "Challengers") will not be a remake. The Italian director has announced that he will create an entirely new adaptation of the book by Bret Easton Ellis.

Who will play the new Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho"?

Like the 2000 version, Lionsgate will produce the film. However, limited information is still available about the upcoming production. "Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP," said Adam Fogelson of Lionsgate.

Internet users are already speculating about who will be cast as the new Patrick Bateman. Many are betting on Jacob Elordi, currently one of the most popular young actors.

"Okay, now all I need is to see Austin Butler, Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi, Tom Blyth, and Dylan O'Brien fight to the death for this role," reads one of the online comments.
