Never regret a text again: Google Messages tests editing feature
Have you ever sent an SMS message only to realize it had a typo, an embarrassing mistake, or went to the wrong person? Google is developing a solution that might prevent some of these mishaps. An editing feature for sent messages is currently being tested in Google Messages.
This new addition to Google Messages is in its beta phase. Android Police reported that development has been underway since February, but it has only been noticed recently. This feature allows users to edit SMS messages after they've been sent. It's available to a select group of beta testers, but there is no detailed information on when it might be available to more users.
Google Messages, the primary app for SMS and RCS messaging on Android devices, is on the brink of introducing a feature many will find invaluable. This capability – editing messages post-sending – was previously unavailable in this app.
According to Android Police, who cited a Twitter user known as Jhowkira2000, this feature is accessible on specific devices through AssembleDebug. He mentioned accessing the feature several months prior, indicating that Google has invested considerable time in developing it.
The editing window for sent messages lasts for 15 minutes. The process is straightforward: press and hold the sent message, tap the pencil icon, edit the message as needed, and confirm your changes.
There's no word on when this feature will roll out more broadly. However, its presence in the beta version suggests it could be available to a larger audience soon. Edited messages can undergo multiple revisions, with a small note indicating the content has been edited. Additionally, recipients can view the message's original content before making edits.
