Many people start their day with morning coffee. Before or after drinking it, they briskly march to the bathroom to brush their teeth. It turns out that the order in which these two actions are performed can affect our health and the appearance of our teeth.

Coffee has many health benefits. It is also often used at home and in the garden e.g. to create natural fertilizers or body scrubs. Scientific research confirms that this black brew improves memory and concentration, blood circulation, and also reduces stress and lowers the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, depression or Parkinson's disease. Additionally, it helps to get rid of excess fat tissue and provides energy.

Harmful properties of coffee

Unfortunately, the beloved drink of millions also has a negative effect on our health, especially when we consume it in excess. Unreasonable amounts of coffee can lead to the loss of valuable electrolytes such as magnesium, potassium, and sodium.

It is also known that drinking coffee can lead to the formation of visible discolorations on the teeth. Therefore, most people decide to brush their teeth after drinking coffee, which, however, turns out not to be the best idea.

Why is it best to brush your teeth before coffee?

Not many people realize that brushing your teeth immediately after drinking coffee can have a negative impact on the health of your teeth. Such action can lead to the wearing and weakening of the enamel, which is a natural protection against damage caused by physical and chemical factors.

Therefore, it is better to take care of oral hygiene before drinking coffee. If toothpaste lands on our teeth before coffee, it not only helps get rid of tartar, but also prevents stains from setting in, thereby reducing the risk of discoloration.

In order to avoid the negative effects of drinking coffee and to take the best care of your teeth, it's recommended to brush them before consuming the black beverage. Additionally, it's worthwhile to rinse your mouth with water after drinking coffee. Dentists suggest reaching for a toothbrush and toothpaste at least half an hour after consuming a caffeinated drink. During this time, saliva will have a chance to neutralize the acidic pH in our oral cavity.
