"There's a rampant issue with information leaks, and I can't allow it to continue. Therefore, I've decreed that everyone participating in the cabinet and security meetings be subjected to a lie-detector test," Netanyahu declared at a cabinet meeting, as reported by The Telegraph.

The Prime Minister's mandate follows closely after press reports about last Thursday's meeting, assembled to discuss the post-war Gaza Strip. The meeting concluded with accusations and a dispute between far-right ministers and Major General Herzl Halevi, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army.

Media outlets have described the occurrence as a "loud and fervent disagreement". As Kan TV reported, one of the participants claimed there was "absolute chaos" at the scene. The ministers fiercely criticised the general after he proposed establishing a commission to examine the armed force's oversights that facilitated an unforeseen Hamas attack on October 7th.

Prime Minister Netanyahu subsequently suspended the meeting after several participants departed the room in distress.

Netanyahu's popular support is on the decline

Support for Netanyahu has seen a significant decrease recently. Despite this, Israeli public opinion largely backs the Israeli military's offensive in Gaza.

The Prime Minister, while refusing to accept direct responsibility for the security lapses that allowed Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group, to execute a massacre on October 7th, has pledged to persist with retaliation.
