Natural boost: Transform your magnolia with banana peels

The magnolia is an exceptionally striking tree or shrub that comes in shades of white, pink, or purple. It typically blooms in early spring, usually from April to May, even before the leaves appear. Although the magnolia is not particularly hard to cultivate, it requires proper conditions and care to amaze with abundant blooms for many years.

Magnolias require proper fertilization. This is crucial because the plant needs many nutrients to produce a large number of flowers and maintain a healthy root system. Regular fertilization also supports the development of flower buds, leading to more abundant blooming in subsequent seasons. Without sufficient nutrients, the magnolia may bloom weaker, and its leaves may yellow and fall off.

It's worth choosing fertilizers rich in potassium and phosphorus as these are responsible for the abundance of flowers and the plant's strength. For this purpose, you can use both ready-mixed fertilizers and natural homemade fertilizers that are easy to prepare.

One of the lesser-known, yet very effective methods for naturally fertilizing magnolias is using banana peels. They're a rich source of potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium, which help with lush blooming and strengthen the plant. To prepare banana peel fertilizer, cut the peels from two bananas into smaller pieces and place them in a quart jar.

Then, pour warm water over them and leave for 48 hours to allow the nutrients to seep into the liquid. Afterward, dilute the water at a 1:1 ratio and water the magnolia at the base of the plant. It's best to use banana peel fertilizer once every two weeks from March to August. With regular fertilization, the magnolia will have more flower buds, and its leaves will be healthier and greener.
