NATO's 20‑year challenge: Deterring Russian aggression
The head of Estonian intelligence, Kaupo Rosin, emphasizes that NATO must deter Russia for the next 10-20 years to prevent its aggression toward the West.
The head of Estonia's foreign intelligence service, Kaupo Rosin, warns that NATO will need to focus on deterring Russia for the next 10-20 years. The goal is to prevent a potential military attack on the West.
Investments in defense crucial for NATO
Rosin emphasizes that the West must take defense issues seriously by increasing investments in this area. "NATO and national military plans must be credible, realistic, and true. They must be backed by real resources, including troop presence, as well as additional units and the amount of ammunition," Rosin shared in an interview with Reuters.
According to Rosin, Russia is not ready to negotiate ending the invasion of Ukraine. He predicts that Moscow will try to limit NATO's activity, weaken its infrastructure, and reduce military presence in countries on the eastern flank. "Then we will be able to deter Russia," assessed the head of Estonian intelligence.
