NATO chief urges boost in defense as Russian threats grow
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warns of increasing threats from Russia and its allies. During the NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels, he emphasized the necessity of increasing defense spending to ensure future security.
At the NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels, Secretary General Mark Rutte highlighted the growing threats from Russia. Rutte stressed that Russia, supported by China, North Korea, and Iran, is conducting hybrid actions, such as cyberattacks and sabotage, aimed at destabilizing NATO countries.
Increasing defense spending
Rutte noted that the response to these threats must be an increase in defense spending. He emphasized that all NATO countries should intensify military exercises and enhance military equipment production. "It's time to switch to thinking in terms of war," Rutte warned, pointing out the need to prepare for future conflicts.
During the meeting in Brussels, Rutte reminded participants that in five months, a NATO summit will be held in The Hague. He emphasized that the Alliance's goal is to ensure the security of citizens by developing partnerships and enhancing defense capabilities. "My priority is that we do everything necessary as quickly as possible," Rutte concluded.
