The leader of the Lebanese Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said on Saturday.

A source close to Hezbollah told the AFP agency that contact with Nasrallah was lost on Friday evening.

On Friday, the Israeli army conducted an attack on Hezbollah's headquarters in Beirut. According to media reports, an entire block was destroyed, making it the largest air raid on the Lebanese capital during the ongoing escalation of the Hezbollah-Israel conflict over the past year.

Operation against Hezbollah

The Israeli army reported new strikes in eastern Lebanon targeting the Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah on Saturday morning.

Lebanese parliamentarian Mark Dau said that Israeli forces struck the mountain town of Bahamdoun, located southeast of Beirut.

According to eyewitnesses, smoke was rising over the southern suburbs of Beirut on Saturday following the Israeli attack, Reuters reported. Explosions were also heard in the city.

Rockets fired at Israel

Hezbollah, meanwhile, stated that on Saturday it launched Fadi-1 rockets at Kibbutz Kabri in Western Galilee in northern Israel, in response to Israel's "barbaric" strikes on "cities, villages, and civilians" in Lebanon.

According to the Times of Israel, five rockets struck deeper into northern Israel, but none hit Kabri.

The Israeli army reported intercepting five rockets launched from Lebanon in the northern part of the country.

Simultaneous strike on Hamas

Earlier on Saturday morning, the Israel Defense Forces reported that the leader of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas in southern Syria was killed in an airstrike conducted overnight from Friday to Saturday in southern Syria.

Ahmed Muhammad Fahd was, according to the Israeli army, responsible for attacks on Israeli soldiers and the state of Israel, mainly through rocket fire on the Golan Heights.

"Fahd was eliminated while planning another terrorist attack in the near future," the Israeli army said.

This strike was carried out in southern Syria. The Israeli armed forces reported that fighter jets were used during the operation.
