Auction house Sotheby's has announced that six jerseys worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina's victorious 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be put up for sale in December. The estimated value of these jerseys surpasses 10 million dollars. If these estimates are accurate, Messi might eclipse Michael Jordan in this arena.

The jerseys auctioned are those that the captain of the Argentine national team wore during the first halves of the matches in the World Cup. This includes group matches against Saudi Arabia and Mexico and knockout matches against Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia, and France in the finals.

If the estimates exceeding 10 million dollars (9.15 million euros) are met, Messi's lot of jerseys could set the record for the most expensive sporting memorabilia ever sold, as per Sotheby's.

Potentially higher bid for Messi's jerseys than Jordan's

The current record holder of the most expensive sports memorabilia is a jersey of basketball legend Michael Jordan from a Chicago Bulls game during the 1998 NBA finals. That jersey was purchased last year for a staggering 10.1 million dollars.

A part of the proceeds from the sale will be given to the UNICAS project, an initiative of a Barcelona hospital dedicated to treating rare children's diseases.
