Memphis Depay, who usually plays as a forward for Atlético Madrid, appeared wearing a headband at the Euro 2024 matches. Many people were asking why he needed such an accessory. The player additionally personalized his headband by embroidering a gold "10" on the number he plays within the Dutch national team.

The player of Ghanaian descent wore an eye-catching white headband for the match against Poland. He also had it during friendly matches with Canada and Iceland in early June.

Depay's outfit, specifically the headband, sparked quite a discussion on social media. Some Dutch media even criticized him for this accessory.

Memphis Depay pointed out that the headband helps him when he sweats. His girlfriend also likes this accessory.

The previous match I made 20 minutes of time for the press in the mixed zone and I haven't had any questions about it. Who cares? It looks great on me and helps me sweat. - explained Depay after the match with Iceland.
My girlfriend likes that sweatband. Amazing, right?. It's a new look and I feel good about it. I'm already thinking about what colour I'm going to wear in Germany." - he said at the time.

Sunday's match showed that the Dutch national team player went for gold. Could this be a good omen for his team?

Memphis Depay's headband is one of the most talked-about fashion elements in the history of Dutch football - stated the Dutch portal voetbalprimeur.nl.

Memphis Depay: on the road to a record in the national team

Depay is one of the most experienced players in Ronald Koeman's squad. So far, he has played 91 matches for the Dutch national team, in which he scored 45 goals.

The European Championship is an important tournament for Depay because he is just five goals away from matching Robin van Persie's scoring record in the Dutch national team.

The match against Poland didn't change these statistics because although the Netherlands won, none of the goals belonged to Depay.
