Melania Trump plans independent path in second first lady term
The American news network CNN reported, citing numerous sources, that Melania Trump will approach her role as First Lady differently during her second tenure than her previous term. Among other things, it is unlikely that she will move to Washington permanently.

Even before her husband assumes the presidency, the wife of President-elect Donald Trump has shown that she does not intend to meekly follow existing protocols. This independence, according to CNN, is highlighted by Melania Trump's absence from a meeting on Wednesday with the current First Lady, Jill Biden.
The network notes that Melania explained her absence as a scheduling conflict due to commitments related to her book publication. CNN asserts that this event suggests that Melania Trump, who spent her first four years redefining her role, will have even greater autonomy the second time around.
Melania Trump as first lady for the second time. She will be independent
"This time is different. I have much more experience and knowledge. I have already been in the White House," Melania Trump said in an interview with Fox News following her husband's victory over Kamala Harris.
Most likely, Melania will spend most of this term not in the White House, but splitting her time between New York and Palm Beach, Florida. Previously, Donald Trump spent winter weekends at Mar-a-Lago and summers at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. It will likely be similar this time as well.
After the 2016 elections, Melania Trump also delayed her move to Washington, choosing to move to the White House only a few months after the inauguration to allow their son Barron to finish the school year.
Kate Bennett, former CNN White House correspondent and author of the book "Free, Melania: The Unauthorized Biography," commented that Melania's disregard for tradition shouldn't surprise those following her closely. Her absence during the campaign reflects her future intentions.
She accompanied her husband only when he announced his re-election bid. She also attended the October rally at Madison Square Garden and was present on election night in West Palm Beach. CNN noted that Melania prefers not to engage publicly.
The station Onet.pl also references other publications analyzing the Trump couple's relationship. Donald and Melania generally spend little time together. There were occasions when they did not communicate for several days, even if both were staying at Trump Tower.
Melania allegedly had little knowledge about her husband's business dealings. For his part, Trump was not particularly engaged as a father in raising his four older children and showed even less interest in Barron, his son with Melania. He adhered to the principle that each partner should handle their own matters.
