Melania's quiet tribute: A show of faith at Pope's farewell
Melania Trump, along with Donald Trump, arrived at the Vatican for the funeral of Pope Francis. Their presence caused quite a stir for various reasons. Upon returning to the United States, the First Lady decided to speak out.
Although last Saturday, the world's attention was focused on the late Pope Francis, the presence of Melania and Donald Trump did not go unnoticed. Cameras captured a moment when the politician's wife appeared to reprimand him to prevent a faux pas.
The First Lady's dignified attire received warm reviews, in contrast to Donald Trump's navy blue suit, which he wore to the Vatican. An awkward moment between the couple, seemingly a "fake" and "awkward" kiss, before boarding the plane was also widely covered by American media.
Donald Trump faced criticism for not wishing his wife a happy 55th birthday, which happened to coincide with the day of the pope's funeral. Hearing about the media storm, Melania decided to make an exception and speak publicly.
The First Lady shared a black-and-white photograph taken during the funeral mass on her official profile. In the photo, her eyes are closed because—as she claims—she was immersed in prayer.
I had the honor of attending Pope Francis’ funeral, on this day, where I prayed for the healing of those who are suffering and for peace in the world,
she wrote on Instagram.
Melania Trump also thanked everyone who offered her "heartfelt birthday wishes." Upon returning to the White House, her husband also spoke, assuring that he had not forgotten her birthday. He told reporters that they had enjoyed a wonderful dinner and praised her as an outstanding First Lady.
The presidential couple reportedly had dinner aboard Air Force One. Perhaps they chose not to dine in Europe to respect the solemnity of the occasion following the death of the head of the Catholic Church.
Melania Trump is connected to the Catholic religion
The former model's ties to Catholicism have been a topic of discussion for a long time. She is the second First Lady after Jacqueline Kennedy to be raised in the Roman Catholic faith. She was born in Slovenia, which in 1970 was part of Yugoslavia.
During the funeral, the 55-year-old did not hide her emotions and occasionally covered her face with a black veil due to her feelings. Standing right behind her was Agata Duda.
