Mel Gibson's polarizing journey from Hollywood to controversy
Oscar-winning actor and director, womanizer, and anti-Semite. Mel Gibson's life is a vivid example of a Hollywood star's great successes and spectacular downfalls. In recent years, it seemed that Gibson had become a balanced person again, yet he has once more shown his worst side.

Mel Gibson was regarded as a model husband and father for over a quarter of a century. His wife, Robyn Denise Moore, was always by his side; they married in 1980 before he became famous. Unfortunately, their marriage turned out to be less exemplary than it seemed. Gibson struggled with severe alcohol problems. Robyn decided to separate in 2006 after the actor was arrested for drunk driving in Malibu.
Three years later, Mel Gibson's wife filed for divorce when the world learned about the actor's affair with Oksana Grigorieva, 14 years his junior. The relationship with the Russian pianist and singer ended in a huge scandal when she revealed recordings in which the star threatened her with death, insulted, and abused her. A media storm followed, which excluded Gibson from Hollywood circles for many years.
In recent years, Mel Gibson has settled down and acts frequently, though not in major Hollywood productions. He directed the critically acclaimed film "Hacksaw Ridge," and his second project, "Flight Risk," is set to premiere in theaters in January. He was also considering making a sequel to "The Passion." However, his recent comments aimed at U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris have once again damaged his image.
When asked by a reporter from the American portal "TMZ" whether he would vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election, Mel Gibson replied: "I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I’ll vote for. I know what it’ll be like if we let her in and that ain’t good. Miserable track record – appalling track record. No policies to speak of. And she’s got the IQ of a fence post."
This statement once again brings trouble to the actor. In the American media, he faced criticism. It's not about who Gibson will vote for, and supporters of Donald Trump in Hollywood are indeed a minority. Unfortunately, the star echoed one of Trump's insults in his election campaign. In speeches, he repeatedly questioned his opponent's intelligence in an offensive manner, which also garnered criticism from some Republican Party supporters.
