Meg Ryan, who in the past earned the title of "queen of romantic comedies," is known for her unforgettable roles in films such as "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle." However, over time, the actress lost interest in this genre. As early as 2002, she expressed that she could no longer act in romantic comedies because it exhausted her.

Ryan, aware that she was stuck in the image of a likable, slightly "crazy" American girl, repeatedly tried to break this stereotype. In 2015, she ventured behind the camera, debuting as a director with the film "Ithaca." One of the main roles in this film was played by Jack Quaid, known for the series "The Boys," who happens to be her son.

Meg Ryan returns to romantic comedies

Recently, Meg Ryan's film successes have not been very prominent. Although she appeared in several productions, none made a significant impact. For her role as Mary in "The Women," she was even nominated for a Golden Raspberry. The media primarily focused on her changing appearance, which was most likely the result of plastic surgery.

The film, "What Happens Next?", directed by Meg Ryan, premiered in American cinemas on November 3, 2023. In the film, Ryan plays Willa, a woman stranded at an airport due to a snowstorm. There, she encounters Bill (David Duchovny), her former partner from over 20 years ago.

As time progresses, the couple starts reminiscing about their relationship, blaming each other for its failures. For Meg Ryan, this film marks her return to romantic comedies after a 15-year hiatus.
