Medvedev's ominous warning to Europe over F‑16 provision to Ukraine: 'Next good day may be the last'

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock believes that the decision to send long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine should be made promptly, as time is of the essence.

Baerbock also touched upon the decision of Denmark and the Netherlands to provide F-16 fighters to Ukraine after appropriate training, labeling it a "wonderful day for Ukraine, and consequently, a wonderful day for Europe." Ukrainian Truth reported her remarks.

This statement provoked a threatening response from Dmitry Medvedev.

"Please refrain from playing with planes like toys in your sandbox, children. The next 'good day' in Europe could potentially be its last," he wrote on Telegram. Medvedev appended his post with a photo of a downed German airplane.

F-16s for Ukraine

The Netherlands will provide 42 F-16 planes to Ukraine. The aircraft will be shipped once the pilots and technical crew are trained, as stated on Sunday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. A few hours later, the Ukrainian leader paid a visit to Denmark. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced that the authorities in Copenhagen have agreed to send 19 F-16 jets to Kyiv.

At the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11, ministers from 11 NATO countries - Poland, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, and the United Kingdom - committed to training Ukrainian pilots and mechanics in the utilization and upkeep of F-16 aircraft. The Netherlands and Denmark spearhead the initiative.
