"Nothing can be ruled out," stated Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and former president, during an interview with Al Arabiya television. The Russian politician acknowledged it as a possibility when asked whether the Kremlin might attack NATO targets.
The Russian agency TASS cites fragments of the interview with Medvedev. Among other points, they highlight his remarks on Russia's likely response in case of "Western escalation" and the measures that might be taken to neutralize long-range weapons produced by Western countries.

"If the escalation scenario continues to unfold, it won't be possible to exclude anything," said the politician. He justified that such reactions from Russia are possible because NATO member states have effectively engaged in this conflict.
Medvedev confirmed that an attack on military centers in Poland and Romania is likely. NATO missile defense bases are located in both countries—Redzikowo in Pomerania and Deveselu in southern Romania.
"Western countries must realize that they are participating in this war on the side of Ukraine. Not only through the transport of weapons and the provision of funds but also directly, as they designate targets on Russian territory and control American and European missiles. They are simply fighting Russia," said Medvedev.
He added that even the most difficult and saddest scenario is possible. "We would not want such scenario, we have all said that repeatedly. We want peace, but this peace must take Russia’s interest into consideration in full," emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the National Security Council of the Russian Federation.
Maria Zakharova, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, previously mentioned the Polish military base in Redzikowo and stated that it is on Moscow's list of priority targets.
