McDonald's faces massive lawsuit over workplace harassment claims
Over 700 McDonald’s employees in the United Kingdom accuse the company of harassment and discrimination. The lawsuit involved more than 450 restaurants and involved young employees. These irregularities were uncovered by a BBC investigation a year and a half ago.
The individuals accusing McDonald's "described instances of harassment they experienced, related to disabilities, sexual orientation, or arising from racism," stated the Leigh Day law office in a statement. The case currently involves over 450 restaurants.
McDonald's sued by over 700 employees
McDonald’s employs over 170,000 people in the United Kingdom, most of whom are very young and hired based on civil contracts. During the incidents, individuals under 20 years old can join the lawsuit, filed following a BBC investigation in July 2023.
The CEO of McDonald's in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Alistair Macrow, apologized on behalf of the company for the "clear shortfalls" in employee protection.
He also added that the company records one to two reports of sexual harassment by employees each week.
