These nuts are a natural delight. They are devoid of cholesterol and sodium. Each serving contains only 0.05 ounces of saturated fats and 0.5 ounces of total fat, primarily constituted by monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

Research conducted by scientists from Penn State, published in the esteemed journal, "American Heart Association," involved non-smoking men and women with high cholesterol levels. The participants underwent a randomized, controlled clinical trial, tasked with solving a math test and immersing their feet in cold water.

The Impact of pistachios on our bodies

Dr. Sheila G. West and Dr. Penny M. Kris-Etherton, accompanied by their team, investigated the effects of diets incorporating pistachios (1.5 ounces or 3 ounces daily) on stress response among people with elevated levels of "bad" cholesterol and balanced blood pressure. The diets inclusive of pistachios were compared with a low-fat diet that did not contain pistachios.

The participants in the study adhered to one of three different diets. The first was a low-fat diet (25% fat) devoid of pistachios, while the other two diets contained varied quantities of pistachios. Each of the three diets was rich in fruits, vegetables, lean meat, and whole grains, adhering to current dietary guidelines. The study revealed that both salted and unsalted pistachios, when included in a healthy diet, contribute to decreased blood pressure and reduced strain on heart vessels. The most significant reduction in blood pressure, by 4.8 mm Hg, was associated with consuming approximately 1.5 ounces of pistachios daily.

A pistachio-inclusive recipe

To enjoy the health benefits of pistachios, try a recipe for pistachio-infused cottage cheese. The following ingredients are needed for its preparation: 2.8 ounces of cottage cheese, 0.4 ounces of pistachios, a handful of chives, and two teaspoons of marjoram or other herbs of your choice.

We blend the cottage cheese with the pistachios until a smooth texture is achieved. If necessary, we can dilute the mixture with water or natural yogurt. Then we chop the chives finely and mix them into the cheese. Lastly, we season with herbs. This cottage cheese can be delightful on its own, but is also excellent served with healthy whole-grain bread.
