The news of Matthew Perry's untimely death became headlines at the end of October. The actor, fondly remembered for his role as Chandler in "Friends", tragically drowned in a hydromassage jacuzzi. The initial reports claimed it was an unintentional accident. Nonetheless, speculations suggesting a possible connection between the tragedy and the actor's known addiction to substances and pills are widespread.
Ex-girlfriend opens up about Perry's struggles
Kayti Edwards, Matthew Perry's ex-girlfriend, argues that the star was grappling with a relapse of addiction before his demise.
"There are many things that don't add up," Kayti said, as quoted by the "Daily Mail".
In her opinion, Perry might have been consuming pills in the week leading up to his unexpected death.
"They mentioned there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn't surprise me, because he wouldn't just leave them. Paranoid, he would consume them all so as not to leave any trace, and he would get more when needed", she clarified in an interview with "The Sun".
Edwards discusses Perry's substance abuse
Grounds suggesting that Perry wasn't sober prior to his death are substantiated by his last social media post, in which he referred to himself as "Mattman". As per Edwards, this pseudonym was only used by him when he was under influence. It's claimed that he felt invincible during such times.
"I was there when he was high, I wasn't using with him, though. When I suggested he might want to reduce his drug usage, he would retort: 'No, I'm Mattman'" - Perry's ex-girlfriend reminisces.
She also highlights that an inebriated Perry used to enjoy spending time in the pool or jacuzzi. For instance, his neighbor reportedly found him in the water, naked and under the influence.
As of now, it's established that Matthew didn't overdose on fentanyl or methamphetamine before his death. More comprehensive toxicological tests will take a few more months. Only then will it be confirmed if other illegal drugs were present in the actor's system. Evaluations for determining the concentration of prescription medication in his body are also underway.
