City-wide panic as massive explosion rocks Nairobi

A witness relayed their experience to the "Nation Africa" portal, recounting initial "multiple explosions" heard. They said, "Then enormous fireballs appeared. People screamed and ran in every direction to avoid possible subsequent blasts. There was no electricity. People evacuated their homes," the witness added.

The fire rapidly extended to nearby buildings. Internet videos captured the moment of the explosion and subsequent panic that followed due to the fire.

Government spokesman Isaac Mwuara confirmed that the fire ignited during the filling of a propane bottle, stating "The building housing the business has been totally destroyed."

The exact count of casualties and injuries is still unknown. The Kenyan Red Cross has reported damage to around 100 residences. Several ambulances, fire department units, and national police resources have been dispatched to the area.

According to the Kenyan Red Cross, a total of 271 people have been hospitalized following this incident.
