Massive Kyiv attack leaves 9 dead, 63 injured amidst chaos
In a massive attack on Kyiv, 9 people were killed and 63 were injured, according to local authorities. At least five districts in the city were shelled, and rescuers are still pulling people from the rubble.
"On the night of April 23, Kyiv was attacked. As of 12:06 AM Eastern Time, 9 people have been reported dead and 63 injured, including 6 children and a pregnant woman," said Timur Tkachenko, head of the State Audit Office of Kyiv. Forty-two people have been hospitalized.
According to the mayor of Kyiv, the Sviatoshynskyi district suffered the most from the attack. Fires broke out in six locations, and emergency services are still working at the site. Rescuers are still pulling people from the rubble, reported Vitali Klitschko.
Civil infrastructure was destroyed in the attack. Garages, homes, and cars were damaged in the fires.
Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs stated that the rescue operation is still ongoing. "Phone conversations can be heard under the ruins—search efforts will continue until there is certainty that everyone has been extracted," he added.
Ukrainian attack on Crimea
Russian Telegram channels also reported on an attack on the occupied Crimea. One of the more popular channels published a map showing drones approaching the peninsula.
Before midnight Polish time, the Russians even closed traffic on the Crimean Bridge.
After about an hour, traffic on the crossing linking Crimea with Russia was restored.
