On Sunday, social media was abuzz with videos showcasing enormous clouds of black smoke in Russia. Local residents pinpointed the origin of the fire to the vicinity of the Saint Petersburg airport, expressing distress over the acrid smoke that complicates breathing.
Russian media sources have pinpointed the blaze to a hangar close to the airport. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Leningrad region has disclosed that the fire spanned approximately 10,764 square feet in Saint Petersburg.
Two injured in the fire, no reports of disruptions
The fire resulted in two injuries and caused partial collapse of the hangar's roof and walls.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Additionally, there have been no reported disruptions to air traffic despite the dense smoke.
