Soledar stands deserted

Video documenting the complete ruin of the city was made public a few weeks prior. The harrowing footage attests to the Russian army's desolation of Soledar, transforming it into a lifeless hive.

"The Russians have turned Soledar into a deserted town. Not a single building is left undamaged," Unian affirms. Russian occupation forces have persistently endeavored to capture Soledar, in the Donetsk region, for several months now. Serious battles unfolded on the city's outskirts, resulting in extensive infrastructure destruction.

On January 25, 2023, Sergei Cherevaty, chairman of the Eastern Armed Forces Group of Ukraine, declared the departure of Ukrainian soldiers from the city. A decision enacted to preserve the lives of soldiers. According to him, the fight for Soledar claimed as many Russian lives as the combined death toll of the two Chechen wars.
